Kew is a hive of activity at the moment. Everyone is rolling out special activities to celebrate its 250th birthday. From amazing seed displays, to a visit from HRH the Queen.  Not one to disappoint, the Kew digital media team (DMT) has been creating a colourful splash online to showcase our 250th celebration. Check it out at: http://250.kew.org

This is just a small preview to the big splash we’re planning to give everyone this summer when we relaunch the website.  Simple task?  Ordinarily it would be, but rather than patch up the existing site with a face-lift, we’re actually starting from scratch with a blank canvas.

How do you showcase an organisation which houses 200,000 botanical drawings and paintings, two art galleries, 40 listed buildings, the world’s largest living and preserved fungal collection, cultivated from 30,000 different species, the largest bank of wild plant seeds in the world…shall I go on?  In a nutshell we’re relaunching the website to represent all Kew has to offer as both a beautiful botanical garden and a leading global scientific institution.

DMT are digging deep into Kew’s hidden treasures and preparing to share them online with the rest of the world…  watch this space for more updates on how we’re getting on.
